Keystone Tower Systems set for first commercial production of innovative design that promises quick-cue fabrication of units taller and cheaper than current market models.
US engineering outfit Keystone Tower Systems is set to begin commercial production of the first of a line of ‘spiral-welded’ wind turbine towers that promise to lower manufacturing costs and address logistical constraints as designs increase in size for gigascale both onshore and offshore projects.
“Spiral-welded towers have many advantages,” stated Eric Smith, an expert in machine design and CEO of Keystone Tower Systems, a start-up based in Denver. “The spiral welding equipment can be operated directly onsite at a wind project, allowing steel to be shipped in as flat sheets.”
